Why Spring Is the Perfect Time to Reset Your Habits

There’s just something about the shift into spring.

Maybe it’s the longer days, the lighter mornings, or that fresh energy that comes with seeing flowers pop up againβ€”but as soon as April hit, I felt it. That little spark. A quiet motivation to start looking after myself again.

And not in a β€œlet’s overhaul everything overnight” kind of way.
More like… β€œHey, let’s move in the direction of feeling good again.”

Over the past week, I’ve started going outside first thing in the morning (even if it’s just for a few breaths of fresh air). I’ve hopped back on the treadmill for a short walk after breakfast. I’ve started doing press-ups again while my porridge cooks.

Nothing major. Nothing flashy.
Just small shifts that remind me how good it feels to take care of myself.

The Winter Slump Is Real

If I’m honest, this winter hit harder than usual.
I found myself really struggling to keep my habits goingβ€”especially the ones that help me feel strong, grounded, and clear-headed. Motivation was low. Everything felt a bit harder. And I had to really push myself just to get out for a walk or move my body in any way.

And that’s okay.
We’re not robots. We ebb and flow. Life gets heavy sometimes.
But it got me thinking: what if I use this burst of spring energy to rebuild those habits nowβ€”bit by bitβ€”so they’re more solid by the time next winter rolls around?

Not to be perfect. Not to never struggle again.
But to create a stronger baseline. A gentler fall back. A little more resilience.

Spring Is Nature’s Reset Button

We tend to think of January as the time for β€œnew habits,” but honestly?
January is cold. It’s dark. It’s hibernation season. It’s not exactly ideal for motivation.

Spring, on the other hand, is all about new beginnings.
It’s when the world wakes up againβ€”and we get to, too.

So if you’ve been feeling like you’re finally ready to ease back into your movement habits, or take care of yourself in a more intentional way… you’re not alone. And you’re not late.
This might actually be the perfect time to begin again.

3 Ways to Gently Reset Your Habits This Spring

If you’re ready to feel more like yourself again, here are a few simple places to start:

1. Step outside in the morning (even for a minute).
Fresh air + natural light can help reset your body clock, lift your mood, and signal that it’s time to start the day. No pressure to go on a long walkβ€”just open the door and breathe.

2. Stack a movement habit onto something you’re already doing.
I’ve been doing press-ups while my porridge cooksβ€”it’s become my little morning ritual.
What could you add a few squats, stretches, or shoulder rolls to?

3. Move in the way that feels easiest right now.
For me, that’s walking on the treadmill while watching a show after breakfast.
It’s gentle. It doesn’t require a change of clothes or a big time commitment.
What feels doable for you?

Let This Be a Season of Reconnection

This isn’t about pushing yourself harder or trying to β€œmake up for lost time.”
It’s about reconnectingβ€”with your body, your energy, your routinesβ€”and letting those habits support you through the seasons ahead.

Because when next winter rolls around, I want to feel like I’ve got my own back.
Even if things slow down again, I’ll have some gentle, bite-sized habits already in place.
And that feels like a pretty empowering place to be.
